Here are two other stories from William James Mambonike, who was involved in the boat rescue in March:

October 3, 2024:

I wasn’t on duty as a lifeguard, I was just running my stall on the beach, around 1:30 in the afternoon, I saw a woman who was swimming without a buoy or float or anything. She had two children whom she had left on the beach who I was keeping an eye on. She got into trouble, I could tell because she was thrashing around. I was able to jump in and pull her out thanks to my training. I put her in the recovery position and she threw up a lot of water. She was conscious but dazed from the water she had taken in. She was able to continue with her day after a short while.

I was just walking on the beach, not on shift. I saw a young man bobbing up and down. He was swimming near the cliff where the water depth can be misleading – so I knew he was in trouble. I ran in and was able to rescue him by swimming to shore with him. Luckily he was still conscious and capable because I had reached him early. We prefer for people not to swim in that area because it’s dangerous.
